Middle School Choir Festival in Columbus, Ohio for Grades 6–8
Columbus Children’s Choir is excited to announce its 11th Annual Choral Festival, held this year at Licking Heights Middle School in Pataskala, Ohio. This one-day music festival for middle school singers in grades 6–8 brings students from throughout Central Ohio together for a fun-filled day of choir.
This choir festival is designed for students who love singing in their school choir or who are looking for additional music education opportunities outside the classroom. The festival provides an honor choir–style experience in a fun and supportive environment, and no audition is required to participate.
Families may register their child directly through Columbus Children’s Choir, or school music teachers may bring a group. Ask about available group discounts for your school choir.
Students from across Ohio will come together for this engaging vocal music workshop, where they will spend the day rehearsing and learning with nationally recognized composer and arranger Victor C. Johnson.
Work with Composer Victor C. Johnson
Students participating in the festival will have the unique opportunity to rehearse and perform under the direction of nationally recognized composer and arranger Victor C. Johnson. With more than 350 published choral works, Johnson’s music is performed by school choirs across the country and is a staple of middle school and high school choral repertoire.
Festival participants will spend the day working directly with Johnson as they prepare his exciting concert work Plaudite! for performance in the final concert.

A One-Day Vocal Music Workshop for Middle School Singers
The main portion of the festival is a full-day workshop for participating students. Throughout the day, singers will build confidence, musicianship, and teamwork as they rehearse under Johnson’s direction alongside other middle school choir students from across the region.
The festival concludes with a public concert performance where students share what they have learned with family and friends.
Supporting School Choir Programs in Central Ohio
In addition to the student workshop, the festival will include an evening session for music educators and conductors. This professional development opportunity reflects Artistic Director Jeanne Wohlgamuth’s vision for Columbus Children’s Choir to serve as a resource for school choir programs throughout Central Ohio.
“We want to be a resource to teachers,” says Wohlgamuth. “Music teachers are our boots on the ground, and they deserve our support.”
