1. What ages are permitted to compete?

Singers from ages 8 years to 18 years are invited to audition. Singers over the age of 18 who are still in high school are also eligible to audition.

2. Will young singers be competing against older singers?

For the overall winner, yes, but there will be age group winners.

3. What type of singer can enter?

Any style. Styles can include classical, pop, musical theatre, gospel, jazz, country etc.

4. Who will sing for Nancy Carson?

The top finalists will be chosen to sing for Nancy Carson and the final judges by Saturday, March 24, 2018.

5. Who is Nancy Carson?

Nancy Carson, a children’s agent who has worked in the industry for more than twenty-five years and has guided the careers of such celebrities as Lea Michelle from “Glee,” Britney Spears, Matt Damon, Mischa Barton, and Cynthia Nixon. Her website is www.carsonadler.com

6. Are there any other prizes for the winners?

Yes, the top winner will win $1000 and cash prizes will be given to the runner-up winners.

7. Who are the preliminary judges?

Prominent and knowledgeable music professionals from the Columbus area

8. When and where are the auditions?

Saturday, March 10th and 11th at:Columbus Children’s Choir, 760 E. Broad Street, Columbus, OH 43205.

9. How will I know when I am auditioning?

You will select your own time slot through signup genius.

10. Do I need to have an accompanist?

There will not be an accompanist for the preliminary rounds. You may bring your own accompanist;  there will be a piano available. CDs can also be used, but should not have vocals of another singer.

11. Where can I find sheet music or accompaniment CDs?

Both are available at Stantons in Columbus; www.stantons.com

12. May I sing a cappella?

Yes, but it is not recommended. No one may sing a cappella for the finals.

13. How long may I sing?

Each singer will be given two minutes to sing only. Any longer songs will be cut off.

14. What should I wear?

Anything that makes you feel comfortable and at ease.

15. Is there a cost?

Yes, there is a $25 registration fee.

16. Where does the entry fee go?

The cost of facility rentals, bookkeeping, mailings, etc. In addition, this event is a fundraiser for the Columbus and Central Ohio Children’s Chorus Foundation, dba Columbus Children’s Choir.

17. Why do I need a photo and what kind?

Any photo: a snapshot, school picture, whatever looks like you so that the judges can visually remember and reference you.

May 19th, 2018.

20. Is the final event open to the public?

Yes, tickets can be purchased online or through Columbus Children’s Choir office. They will be available for online purchase beginning in April.

21. What if I am a finalist?

All finalists must provide music for piano accompaniment. We will provide an accompanist at the finals or you may bring your own. No one may sing with a recorded piece of music or a cappella. There will be a rehearsal before the finals on the same day. Your finals song can be different from your audition song but must not be longer than two minutes.
