The Magic of Music: Tammy’s Holiday Reflection

This December, Columbus Children’s Choir’s New World Singers once again took the stage with the Columbus Symphony for the beloved Holiday Pops. Held in the historic Ohio Theatre, this annual event brought the joy of the season to life through music. Under the direction of Maestro Stuart Chafetz, the performances were filled with talent, teamwork, and much holiday cheer.

The New World Singers had the opportunity to perform alongside the Symphony Chorus of adult singers in the opening and closing numbers. The combined voices of these choirs created a beautiful, powerful sound that set the stage for an unforgettable concert experience.

Maestro Chafetz continues to be a favorite among the New World Singers, thanks to his warm personality, passion for music, and creative programming. He connects effortlessly with musicians of all ages, ensuring that each member of the choir feels important and inspired. His leadership sets the tone for an inviting, fun, and professional environment that encourages every singer to shine. Maestro Chafetz crafted a performance that blended beloved classics with fresh, contemporary arrangements and delightful surprises like tap dancing. These creative touches made the concert fun and engaging for everyone in the audience.

For the New World Singers, these concerts were more than a chance to perform; they were an opportunity to learn about collaboration, creativity, and dedication. The experience of working in a professional orchestra provided valuable lessons that will stay with our singers for years to come.

While performing for a very appreciative audience is always a thrill, some of the most meaningful moments happen behind the scenes. During breaks, the singers had time to bond over games, conversations, and shared experiences. These moments of connection help build the friendships and sense of family that make our choir so special. This sense of community is what allows us to step on stage as a united group and give our very best, because as the New World Singers motto states, “Everything we do, we do together!”

As the final notes of this year’s Holiday Pops concerts rang out to resounding applause and a standing ovation, the New World Singers walked off the stage filled with pride for a job well done. We are so thankful for the leadership of Maestro Chafetz, the partnership of the Columbus Symphony and Symphony Chorus, and the incredible support of our families and friends. This cherished tradition is a highlight of our year, and we look forward to many more seasons of making music and memories together.
