Middle School Honors Choir – Year 12!
October 9, 2019Let’s Go Shopping!
November 13, 2019This month we are mixing it up! Over the last year we have featured all of our teachers, accompanists, and even our fantastic program manager. As we were thinking about what is next for our popular spotlight series, it seems like the perfect opportunity to feature some of our most talented and supportive local music teachers. Jacob Reed is a composer, jazz drummer, and music educator. As a composer, he draws on a diverse musical background to write across many genres including orchestral, choral, electronic and jazz music. His commissions include writing for the Columbus, Ohio Bicentennial celebration “Finding Time,” the McConnell Arts Center Chamber Orchestra, Trinity Church on Capitol Square and the Ohio Music Teachers Association. He has over twenty years of experience as a drummer and bandleader having performed in numerous jazz groups, including his own trios “The Jazz Elective” and “Jake Reed Jazz Trio.” His bands have held regular gigs at venues throughout Columbus and can currently be heard at Barcelona Restaurant, The Refectory Dinner Music Series, and Nocterra in Powell, OH. As an educator, Reed has accrued a wide variety of experience. He taught in the nationally renowned programs of The Governor’s School of North Carolina and Duke University’s Talent Identification Program. He taught undergraduate courses in music technology, aural training, and sight singing and gave private composition lessons at The Ohio State University. He currently teaches vocal music in the Worthington Schools and serves as Music Director of Hixon Dance. He received his Kodály Certification from Capital University and holds degrees in Music Theory, Composition and Music Education from The Ohio State University.
Amazing! Lets get to know Jacob a little better.
